Over the past few months (and perhaps years) people in the SILS community have been discussing the possibility of an alternative to the sils-announce listserv. Especially in the case of an on-going discussion thread (for example, the recent string of posts regarding the departures of Profs. Poma-Swank & Bencivengo).
In response to what we believe to be a genuine need in the community, the Pratt-SILS Blog Committee has created this blog to host discussions, organize job & grant opportunities, and provide a comprehensive list of essential websites, resources and items of interest.
While we hope that this new blog will alleviate some listserv traffic, we would also like to see the site become an academic nexus for the Pratt-SILS community—a place to publish your class papers, post links to class projects and wikis, and share your work with your classmates.
Sincerely,
The Pratt-SILS Blog Committee
To post something on the blog: It is just like sending your email to the listserv, but send it to silsblog’s gmail account instead. Our administrators will upload the message to the blog for you, and sign it with your email username (i.e. sparkypants).
You will receive an email back inviting you to create an account with us, if you choose. With a user account you can contribute directly to the blog, and we strongly encourage this level of participation – though it is not necessary.
For more information on posting, see the Help page.
Pratt-SILS Blog is an independent publication created by students of The Pratt Institute School of Information and Library Science in New York City.
