Architectural Drawings Collection Assistant, Department of Drawings & Archives, Avery Architectural and Fine Arts Library, Columbia University in the City of New York
Please note that a demonstrated knowledge of American architectural
history, or a strong interest in learning about it, is essential to
this position. This position also requires a high level of
interaction with other archives and library staff as well as with
users of the collection.
Architectural Drawings Collection Assistant – Grade 8
(Job requisition number 051169 )
Under the general direction of the Curator of Drawings, the
incumbent assists readers in the use of the architectural drawings
collection, maintains collection security, delivers materials to
readers, and prepares works for exhibitions; processes, conserves
and catalogs drawings, manuscripts, and other archival records;
prepares materials from Avery Library for reprography; assigns and
trains others; types confidential letters and other documents;
performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Experience:
Two years’ related experience
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Experience with conservation or preservation storage of art work,
architectural records, or archival records required. Experience
with cutting exhibition-quality, 4-ply beveled window mats
required. Neat handwriting is essential. Must be able to lift and
carry heavy objects and climb ladders. Proficiency with Microsoft
Office applications. Handwriting sample required.
Preferred Experience:
Background in architecture, art history, fine arts, or library
science desirable. Public service experience desirable. Knowledge
of photography (film and/or digital) and Adobe Photoshop desirable.
Working knowledge of a Western European language desirable.
Salary Range: $656.26 – $682.53/week
