Brooklyn Historical Society – Photo Archivist

The Brooklyn Historical Society seeks to hire a Photo Archivist to inventory, rehouse, catalog, and scan the Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation’s photography collection on the occasion of the institution’s 40th anniversary.  The project will take place at the offices of Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Corporation, but supervised by Brooklyn Historical Society staff.  Responsibilities and project tasks will include:

*       Inventorying photography collection

*       Sorting/arranging/rehousing photographs

*       Cataloging images in image database (using PastPerfect)

*       Scanning photographs for the exhibit and ongoing archive

Qualifications: Prior library or archival experience within a similar
setting and familiarity with archival practices. Experience working with
photographic materials required.  Graduate work in archival studies
required, preference for an MLS graduate. Flexibility and ability to
juggle tasks. Ability to complete projects in a timely manner.  Good
communication and organizational skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office
applications, Adobe Photoshop software required; knowledge of
PastPerfect desirable.

Schedule: Initially, this project will be 5 days/week for approximately
one month. The objective is to acquire more funding to continue the
cataloging of the entire collection following the exhibit.

Compensation: $17/hour.
