Albany, NY (April 6, 2007)……The New York State Library announces the
launch of the librarycareersny.org website in conjunction with the Making
It REAL!* library recruitment grant poject. This unique website will
inform people of all ages from diverse backgrounds about careers in
librarianship and
information science in New York State.

Librarycarersny.org is a coordinated statewide effort to collect and
present information supplied by educators, librarians, and other
educational sources for people interested in pursuing a library career. It
reveals how a degree in Library and Information Science can prepare
graduates of all ages for exciting professions in technology-based
companies, schools, hospitals, businesses, public libraries, universities,
and more. It is also an ideal resource for potential librarians who are
interested in obtaining critical information about the profession, and
provides access to a large database of library-related job postings.

An Abundance of Opportunities

The New York State Library encourages current librarians and people
looking for a career change to visit librarycareersny.org for resources
designed to help them find the right career. The website includes these
five informational areas:

-Careers: Find out if librarianship is right for you; explore different
types of library jobs.

-Education: Find an American Library Association-accredited school,
online and distance-learning courses.

-Jobs: Find advice on job searches, crafting resumes and cover letters,
and interviewing, as well as general tips.

-Career Growth: Learn about continuing education, professional
organizations, attending conferences, staying current, and human
resources.

-Profiles: Read the stories of librarians on the job and recent library
school graduates.

This website was developed as a part of the Laura Bush 21st Century
Librarian Program. The New York State Library received $995,630 in 2004
for a three-year collaborative project among library systems, the New York
Association, and New York State’s library schools to provide scholarship
assistance and support through a Teaching Library model.
